Our goal is to prevent many dental diseases and avoid invasive treatments when possible; however, there may be times when your child may need restorative dentistry. Our practice offers a wide range of restorative services to help get your child’s oral health back on track and to keep them smiling.

• Fillings and crowns

  • If your child has developed tooth decay, our pediatric dentist may recommend repairing with either a dental filling or a crown. A dental filling is a restoration used to repair minor to moderate tooth damage. We may recommend a filling if your child’s tooth has been damaged by tooth decay (for example, if the tooth has a cavity), or if your child’s tooth suffers from minor fracturing or chipping. The dental filling is used to restore the tooth to its original structure and function and to return your child’s smile to good health. Under circumstances in which a tooth is severely decayed, we may need to place a crown to restore the tooth to its original shape and size. We always try to use tooth-colored materials (white fillings) when possible.

• Local Anesthesia

  • To help reduce or eliminate pain during your child’s procedure, we may use local anesthesia. We know both children and parents can fear “the shot”. We will ensure that your child remains as comfortable as possible during the entire procedure.

  • Many of our patients never even know they were numbed. To apply local anesthesia, we will dry part of your child’s mouth with soft cotton, and swab the area with a numbing gel so your child will not feel the injection. The effects of the anesthetic may last between one and three hours.

• Pulpal treatments

  • In some situations, a child may require a “root canal”. Baby or immature adult teeth require specialized treatment that often differs from the treatment that would be provided to an adult tooth. We have vast experience treating these teeth, allowing for the best outcomes possible.
